Facilities Project Assistant, Safety Liaison

Job Summary

Reports to the Facilities and Safety Manager: Assists in the design, planning, construction and maintenance of equipment, machinery, buildings and other branch facilities while acting as one of the company’s safety officers. Plans, budgets and schedules facility modifications, including estimates on equipment, labor, materials and other related costs. Helps to ensure facilities comply with all governmental regulations and Colony Hardware, Health, Safety, and Security policies. Performs other duties as required.

Major Responsibilities
Assists with the day to day operations of the facilities management and safety department.
Assists in continuous improvement, implementation and monitoring of the safety program. Travels to branches to review that safety operations are complaint with OSHA standards.
Support the Facilities and Safety Manager in the implementation of short and long-term projects for branch renovation and development.
Must be able to understand and adhere to facility project costs and manage to the budget. Helps to ensure that all facilities are operated and maintained in a cost effective and safe condition in accordance with approved budgets.
Proactively address issues and provide solutions to facility maintenance challenges.
Determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals
Provides guidance to all involved with a project within established company policies
Frequently interacts with third party contractors, customers, Colony management involving matters between functional areas, other Company divisions, or customers and the Company.
Must frequently lead a cooperative effort among members of a project team.
Manages projects, people, and/or third party contractors at the direction of the Facilities and Safety Manager.

Minimum Requirements:
Minimum Associates Degree in construction management or related field
Minimum three years’ experience, preferably in construction, design/build, warehousing or property management
Ability to work independently, prioritize work and perform multiple tasks
Must have excellent time management skills
Experience with warehousing, racking, material handling and movement, distribution center layouts and new location startups required
Experience and understanding of CAD and blueprints a plus.
Basic understanding of safety/environmental and code compliance issues with existing facilities and new projects. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 desirable.
Must be proficient in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel
Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent communication skills including speaking, reading and writing in the English language.
Must be able and willing to do 25 – 50% overnight travel on company business.
Must have a valid driver’s license with a record of sustained safe driving
Excellent attendance, punctuality and a customer service mindset are mandatory.
